Give Thanks To The Lord
This is a time of thanksgiving and it is right that we pause and thank God for the amazing blessings He gives us. In multiple Psalms a phrase frequently appears: “Oh, give thanks to the Lord…” There are reasons for us to give thanks to the Lord, and in each Psalm reasons are given. Here are a few to inspire our feeling appreciation for God and giving of thanks to Him…
“Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever!” Psalm 106:1 The Psalm goes on to talk about God’s “mighty acts”, God’s favor for His people the benefit of being His chosen ones, and how God has historically patiently saved His people. The same things are true today for us – giving us reason to praise God and give Him thanks for His mercy and goodness.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” Psalm 107:1. The Psalm says those who God has redeemed will naturally do this – they were alone, desolate, in trouble, hungry, in darkness, rebellious, and in sin, but God guides them saves them. “Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord” (107:43).
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” Psalm 118:18. The Psalm says God is good and merciful because He answers when we’re in distress, we don’t have to fear what people may do to us. The Lord is our strength and helper; and our salvation. He doesn’t kill us when we makes mistakes, but corrects us. He gives us something to build our lives on and great blessings.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” Psalm 136:1. The Psalm reminds us that only God does “great wonders” like creating the heavens and earth, bringing Israel out of Egypt, delivering them from other nations and giving them the land of Palestine. He rescues and blesses us!
Sometimes we get so caught up in life that we forget that we have so many blessings for which to be thankful. And then we sometimes forget to thank God for those blessings. Good is good. God is merciful. He deserves our thanks.
So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture,
Will give You thanks forever;
We will show forth Your praise to all generations.
Psalm 79:13
